The learning curve for Open Office vs Microsoft Office is pretty much nil. Inkscape can be learned in about ten minutes, vs Adobe Illustrator which takes hours (granted, inkscape is a simpler program altogether). Gimp? Just as easy to learn as Photoshop, especially if you already know Photoshop. Operating systems are tough to learn no matter what - this includes windows. Just look at your parents. Try explaining to Mom how to use windows. I tried and failed miserably. For the OS, perhaps, but I am talking about the free software.
